Samsung Patent Shows a Foldable Smartphone that can Wrap around the Wrist

Samsung along with other brands has recently announced their foldable devices. And many of them has also launched the next generation display smartphone – foldable smartphone. Samsung has already launched its first foldable smartphone which is Samsung Galaxy Fold. Now the company seems to be working on next foldable smartphone. According to a patent, Samsung is working to develop a phone that can be wrap around a person’s wrist, as well as also work as a normal candybar phone.

According to a report Samsung gas filed a patent last week with the World Intellectual Property Organization, which shows that the phone has an all display design and can be bend into a thick wristband using a threaded metal chassis, similar to what is found in watches with metal straps. It is also said that the display will be bend outwards direction and joins with the help of magnet on each end of the phone. The patent further noted that the SIM card will be on the top and the USB-Type-C port will be on the bottom.

This news come just a day after the patent is field showed that the company is working on a new foldable device with different design aspect than the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Fold. We have seen in MWC 2019 that the Galaxy Fold handset fold inwards.

Apart from these all reports, few days back Blomberg reported that the Samsung is working on two more foldable devices, the news agency further reported that the Samsung is developing a clamshell like device and another that fold outwards. The description given by the agency further matches with the filed patent which is mentioned in the above.

Talking about the foldable smartphone which can be wrapped around a person wrist, at MWC Nubia has launched a similar smartwatch-cum-smartphone that has a 4-inch flexible OLED display which comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and e-SIM support for texts and calling. This is priced around 449 euros (around Rs. 36,200).

As for now the company has only field the patent, this didn’t confirms that the company will launch that type of handset as there is no official confirmation yet. Hope in coming months we will be getting some more news about the second foldable device from Samsung.
